 Post subject: Girlfriend is going through HELL

My girlfriend started using heroin about three years ago. She got on to a meth programme about a year and half ago and got herself stable for a while. The clinic doctor refused to take her down off the methadone. I'm not sure why and I'm not trying to play the blame game but it hasn't worked. She started using heroin again and now she wants to go cold turkey from it all. This is her third day without taking anything and she is going through hell. My question is there anything I can get for her to make it easier? I've been told that there are some herbal stuff you can get but I really haven't a clue. Please help, its horrible to see her like this.

Methadone is one of the strongest narcotics available, it's also one of the most difficult to ween/taper of off. As you've probably seen, most "counselors" at the clinic are hesitant to get a patient off of Methadone for a few reasons, I 'suppose'. One being they truly believe that a patient cannot lead a normal life off of Methadone, which is awful. This is not true and not fair to tell people. Secondly, you pay their salary,right? Is she still taking Methadone? How much? I wish you and your girlfriend the best... Sorry you have to go through this...
