Hi. I just wanted to share a story about a friend of mine from college. He got pretty messed up with drugs. Started with coke, then 'e', then finally... and unfortunately, got into heroin. He got so into it all that he needed to find additional funding to support his habit. So, he turned to dealing the same drugs he was doing. It was making him money, getting him free drugs, and in his mind, making life great.
I didn't know just how deep he was getting at the time, but I knew it was bad.
Looking back on it, I wish I could have intervened. I just wasn't close enough to him or even knew how to step in. Well... his problem became bad. His drug dealing became way too much, and finally... he was caught... twice. Sadly, he was sentenced to prison for his so-called crimes. He had to do time and obviously learned a lesson. And although he doesn't do 'H' anymore, he still has problems with drugs.
There's a show on A&E called 'Intervention' that has helped me to understand addictions. Have any of you seen it? If not, the new series premieres today, December 3rd, at 9pm/8 central. Check out the trailer here:
http://www.aetv.com/interventionI like it because it outlines the addiction process for those of us that don't understand--it helps me understand how and why he's going through this entire mess and his motivations. I think it's really important for those of us not battling with addiction to understand what our loved ones are going through so that we can better help them get better. What do you think? Are you gonna check it out?
