Drug Addiction Rapid Detox Forums

Please help!
i am a Daughter and Partner of a man going through Methadone withdrawel.
He's been clear of it for 2 and a half weeks, but still really suffering physically and mentally.
Getting abit scared cos his mood swings are out of control, he's drinking vodka way too much aswell.
i'm really worried.
any advice?? on how long this goes on for please.

sorry to hear this....how much was he on and how long....i have heard that methadone wd can last for a month or longer

The technical term for what he's experiencing is called "Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome" and is comprised of symptoms like depression, fatigue, malaise, anxiety, etc... The only thing he can do right now-at home- is exercise. His body is literally suffering from lack of endorphins, so the more he moves the better he feels, both physically and psychologically. Just be there for him, that's the best you can do. Good luck.

He has been on it for 3 years. He started off on 60 mil and then he cut down to 15 over a few months.

He is now on day 24 of not having any and still going through the motions!
he drinks alot aswell, do you know if this can affect or slow down the withdrawel??

physically he seems to still be going through alot, he has calmed down emotionally though..

now he just wants to be alone.

If I may ask, what other things are being done in addition to cutting back on the Methadone? The reason I ask is because there are other options to consider that are safer and help to reduce many of the symptoms of withdrawal. Detoxing safely and properly from Methadone will likely take about 8 weeks or so, when done right. However, this period should be done in phases (from personal experience) to minimize the risk of relapse and/or pain.

My advice is this...if you're not already, you should look into more structured medical detox. Your father can be given medication which will minimize the withdrawal symptoms he's experiencing while he and medical advisors focus on controlling and lessening cravings. There are plenty of detox facilities which offer such services, and some also offer programs in phases which will be an important factor in preventing potential relapses.

Do a bit of research and consider your options, and don't hesitate to ask questions about the process or phases if you have any. Detoxing from Methadone doesn't have to be as painful and frustrating as some think it is. You just have to know the right process. Good luck, and we're here if you have questions!
